  2. Dear David,

    All sections are absolutely interesting and very useful. However, this is the one I picked and would like to make some comments on it.

    1) My favourite section of the Learning English website is "6 minutes English" because I have found many useful vdo clips that can be used as excellent teaching materials for different classes I teach. For example;
    - VDO Clip "Mindfullness" This vdo clip can be used as a perfect teaching and learning material in Nu. 1318 (Nursing Care of Persons with Mental Health Problems) for 3rd year nursing students.
    - VDO Clip "How do you learn to speak a language?" This is absolutely a very good teaching and learning materials in English language class. I could use it in L.1102 (English for Everyday Life) for 1st year nursing students.

    2) I am very positive that I could use this website for my teaching in many aspects. For instance;
    - I will assign students to choose any vdo clip from this website that match their interests and then they can continue working in pair. After finish watching the vdo clip, both of them can discuss on what they learn from the vdo clip.
    - I will use this website as an online resources for my Flipped Classroom. This idea can be carried out in both subjects, Nu.1318 with 3rd year nursing students and L.1102 with 1st year nursing students. :)

    Best Regards,
    Nami

    1. Hi Nami
      An interesting post. Watching a video on "How you learn to speak a language" should boost your learners metacognitive awareness. Would you have your students watch the clips on their devices in class or outside of class on their laptops etc?

    12. Hi! Nami,
      What an enthusiastic comment. I do like the 6 minutes English as well. It has not only audio clip, but also a question and a script. So, I think we can use it for several purposes. Firstly, we can ask the students to listen and tell a story out of what they heard. Then we can ask them to re-listen and try to answer the question. Then they can review a script to improve their reading skills, to learn about grammar or vocabulary. The students can practice inside or outside the classroom. Great stuff!

  3. I had a peek and scrolled in the BBC Learning English. I found many nice programs and interesting resources on this website. I really like Grammar Gameshow, which has 31 sessions so far, such as how to use "used to and would", "some and any", etc. The courses provided are tailored for different levels of learners, from lower intermediate to advanced. I will strongly advice to and use many of these resources with my students. It is amazing how we can learn the languages today, isn't it? Thinking back to my time, I needed to dig and search all kinds of English sources I could to improve my English. It was pretty tough at that time, as you could imagine. Nowadays, all information and strategies are in your hands, in your toilet, in the jungle, even in your swimming pool. I wish all of my students can use English well, even better than me :).

    2. I would like to do both, David. When my students are getting bored with the class, I would like to have them watch the clips first and ask them to prepare a similar game show as a group at home. At home, they can watch more clips. Then, each group can present their game show in similar grammars or different ones. Doing so can make others learn good grammars.

      Yes, for accessing English materials, when one is swimming, one needs to have a super waterproof iPhone, I guess! I am, myself, not going to do that because I don't have too many bucks for this expensive phone :).

  4. Dear David,
    I visited the website “BBC Learning English” I did find that all sections are incredibly motivating and very beneficial. However, I am interested in one section in particular which I would like to talk about it.
    1) My favourite section of the Learning English website is “English at University Intermediate level”. I am interested in it because it is related to university students. I have found many useful vdo clips and documents that can be used as guiding materials for different classes I teach and advice. For example;
    - VDO Clip “Take note” can be used as a recommendation material for 3rd year nursing students who start to study in MCH course .
    2) I am sure that I could use this website for my student in many ways. For instance;
    - I will strongly advice my students to read and use these resources in their daily life and study.
    - I will use this website as an online resource for my orientation in MCH course.

It give some ideas about take note such as an effective method to take note. Moreover, It show some phrases or words about "take note" in English that are useful for learning English as well. I assign them to visit the website by themselves before orientation MCH course. Then, I gave them to talk together and reflect what they know about "take note" and "how can they apply "take note" to real situation. Lastly, I will assign them to take note for the orientation MCH course.

  5. Dear David,

    After browsing each section curiously, I found this website is very useful and interesting. My most favourite section is "Pronunciation". English pronunciation is sometimes difficult for non-native speaker. Moreover, I think that British accent is quite cool. The presenter in this section create interesting activity by asking British people to pronounce the particular letters. So I hope my students or trainees will enjoy learning it and like English bit by bit.

    Other section like "English you need" is also interesting, especially "the teachers' room". I like various technique that the presenters use in teaching. Unfortunately, there is only 1 activity in this section. BBC should produce more of this as it is very useful for teachers to apply techniques in their teaching practice.

    I can use this website in my teaching with either nursing students or health professional trainees. I think I will assign my students to watch all video clips about pronunciation. Then they must record their voice how they pronounce all the word correctly. Then they give it to their friend to check against the website if they do it correctly. I hope they will enjoy this activity and be more confident to speak English.

    Thank you for recommend us useful materials.
    Have a good night!

  6. This is the first time that I visit the BBC Learning English website. There are many interesting resources on this website. All sections is amazing, and several activities interest me.
    For the first question, my favourite section is English at university. This section provides the sense of how students have daily lives in the university. We can learn vocabularies, idioms, sentences used in the vdo with script. I really like the conversation of Episode 9, dinner time. This makes me laugh and think that this situation can also happen in the real life.
    The second question is how I could use this website in my teaching practice. I am sure that this website is one of good resources to help my students practice their English skills themselves outside the class. In addition, I will use some materials of this website to improve my English class and enhance students'positive attitudes of using English in everyday activities.

  7. My favorite part of the clips on the website of BCC Learning English is "Learn in Your Language." On "You Ask, We Answer", there is also available in Thai. The reason why I love; because many video clips of the course provide the topics of study for anyone interested in English from the beginner level to advanced. The clips showed situations for the learners to learn from daily activities, in which how native speakers use English in their conversation, and then Thai people translated the speaking from English to Thai. The clips also showed syntaxes and vocabularies in each lesson. These are very useful for those interested in learning the English language, self-development, self-study at any time. The students can learn English on their own schedule. Most important, it is no cost to students.
    To be applied in my teaching, I would like to have my students get on this Website and learn by themselves. After watching the clips, students should write what they learned each time for about 10 times of access (learning log).

Yes, we should encourage our students to learn by themselves on the website like this BBC's and each time they learn something, they should take a not and put in their reading log. Similar to the class observation forms we have got from David, in their reading log it is also helpful to students if we have a form for them to fill in so that they know what to learn and look for.

  9. Hello David

    My favourite section is The Teachers' Room (09 FEB 2017)
    I interested in word stress that I have learned in the last session today. Therefore, I try to find the topics that releted to it. Then, I found it in "Unit 1: English You Need".
    This unit shows all about teaching practice. It contains various media such a video, text, and quiz.
    I found some good techniques for the teachers who want to deliver the content to students. Some teachniques can support active learning and might help students increase their memory and feel more comfortable than sitting on the chair and wait for the teacher. I am also fancy about using learner's body making fun such making sound "hum" or making "jump". It can be apply when the students are trying to pronouce words, I believe those techniques are memorable and often provoke laughter, which creates a good learning environment.

    This section also include the quiz. It is a short quize but I think it is enough for the teacher to check themself in the time being. It also supports the teacher to remind the main concepts regarding teaching and creating good environment.

    How do you think you could use this website in your teaching practice?
    I think it quite challenge to me if I use those techniques in teaching the student. It can be start from simple to difficult vocaburary. I can also take advantages to apply these teachniques when I found some words raised from the students. Regarding the body movement technique, I would like to suggest students and encourage them to learn independence.

    Thank you David, you suggested me such a good English resource.

  10. Dear David,

    This is my first visit to BBC Learning English website. I found all sections in the website are interesting and very useful. Many of the materials are delivered as full length courses but each component of the course is standalone and can be easily studied on its own. However, my most favorite section is "Pronunciation". I think pronunciation is very important and difficult problem that non-native English speakers have to face when studying English. Poor pronunciation can lead to negative impression, misunderstanding and ineffective communication. From the website, I like the ways of the presenter used for creating the interesting activities such as asking British people to pronounce the particular letters.

    Therefore, I think I could use many materials from this website in my teaching practice. I can assign my students to watch video clips about pronunciation and ask them to practice following the presenter. I could also assign them to record their voice how they pronounce all the words correctly. I hope the students will enjoy and be more confident to speak English.

    Thank you very much for introducing me to this useful website

  11. After exploring BBC Learning English Website, I think It provides so many courses and feathers for learners to learn English. The learners can choose the courses that match with their English level or they may choose a specific English skill that they want to improve via the Feature section.
    My favorite section in BBC Learning English is Tim’s Pronunciation Workshop in pronunciation feather. This section is very useful for learners who would like to improve their pronunciation. The workshop consists of 75 episodes of pronunciation lessons with the short clip about 3-5 minutes and the transcript. In each episode, the pronunciation topic will be provided with voxpops and the sample of sentence.
    I think I could use the workshop for my pronunciation teaching both in nursing student group and health personnel group. I will use it to improve my students’ pronunciation skill in general and also focus on some challenging pronunciation for Thai learners too. By using this workshop as a material for teaching, I hope that my students will become a better listener and a more fluent speaker.

  15. Dear David

    I have gone through the website of BBC learning English, I really like a section of "English in a minute". This is because I found it really interesting in applying to my students in order to encourage them to learn English in terms of vocabulary, grammar and so on. I will use the section and assign my students to go on it and learn from it. My students may like this section because each session provides the use of English in the right way with just only one minute which is not too long for them to concentrate.

  16. I found BBC Learning English is a wonderful website that provides invaluable and resourceful materials for improving English fluency. I also like some sections of this website, such as the Lingohack, Words in the News, and News Report.
    My favorite section is Lingohack because this website give me almost full options of practicing comprehensive English listening. The varied news contents in Lingohack are recent, short and sufficient. The website provides related news vocabularies that I need-to-know before start watching the news and offers a transcript for understanding of the news. It also has questions and answers about the news to help me understand the news clearer. I think I would use this website in my English program for heath personnel for their extensive listening.

    1. I agree with you Suparat. This section is quite good for me and for my students as well. This is because each content is not to long and provide subtitle at the same time. I can use this section applying to my students in the class related to their lessons being learnt.
